Coffee Questions, Answered.
What Is Specialty Grade Coffee?
Specialty-grade coffee is coffee at its absolute best.
It’s made from high-quality beans that score 80 points or higher on a 100-point scale and are grown in ideal climates, often at higher elevations. These beans are carefully harvested, thoughtfully processed, and roasted in a way that brings out the unique flavors of each origin.
Specialty coffee also means intention — from working directly with farmers to supporting ethical and sustainable practices throughout the entire journey from farm to cup.
The result?
Coffee with more depth, character, and clarity — not just caffeine.
Speciality Coffee vs Regular Coffee?
The difference comes down to quality, care, and flavor.
Specialty coffee is made from carefully grown beans that meet high-quality standards, are thoughtfully sourced, and roasted to highlight their natural flavor characteristics. You’ll often taste more depth, clarity, and personality in the cup — whether that’s chocolatey, fruity, nutty, or floral notes.
Regular (commercial) coffee is typically mass-produced, blended for uniformity, and roasted darker to mask inconsistencies. It’s designed to taste the same every time, but often at the expense of nuance and freshness.
At Beansly, specialty coffee means:
- intentional sourcing
- better farming practices
- fresher roasting
- and a more memorable cup
It’s coffee with a story — not just a routine.
Why is specialty coffee priced higher than store-bought coffee?
Because more care goes into every step.
Specialty coffee starts with higher-quality beans that are grown in ideal conditions, carefully harvested, and thoughtfully processed to preserve their natural flavors. These coffees aren’t mass-produced — they’re the result of intentional farming, smaller harvests, and hands-on work from start to finish.
It also reflects how the coffee is sourced. Specialty coffee emphasizes transparency, traceability, and direct relationships with farmers, ensuring fair pay and sustainable practices rather than cutting corners to lower costs.
On the roasting side, specialty coffee is roasted in smaller batches by skilled roasters who focus on bringing out the unique character of each origin — not just making it taste the same every time.
The result isn’t just better coffee — it’s better coffee with purpose.
More flavor, more integrity, and more respect for the people behind every cup.
What is Roasted-to-Order?
Roasted-to-order means your coffee is roasted after you place your order, not weeks or months beforehand.
Instead of pre-roasting and storing coffee in bulk, we roast each batch fresh so it arrives at its peak flavor. This ensures better aroma, clearer tasting notes, and a more satisfying cup overall.
At Beansly, roasting to order allows us to protect the natural character of each coffee and deliver it the way it’s meant to be enjoyed — fresh, balanced, and full of life.
It’s a simple approach with a big payoff: coffee that tastes noticeably better, because it hasn’t been sitting around waiting to be brewed.
How long does coffee stay fresh?
Coffee doesn’t spoil quickly, but it does lose its magic over time.
For the best flavor, coffee is ideally enjoyed within 30 days of roasting. During this window, the beans have settled, opened up, and are at their most expressive.
Here’s a simple freshness guide:
- 0–5 days after roasting
Freshly roasted coffee needs a short rest. This allows excess gases to release so flavors can fully develop. - 6–30 days after roasting
This is the sweet spot. Flavors are balanced, clear, and at their peak. Many coffees shine brightest between days 10–20, depending on how you brew. - 30–90 days after roasting
Still drinkable, but flavors begin to soften and lose some clarity. - 90+ days
The coffee won’t taste bad, but the vibrant notes that make it special have largely faded.
How long coffee stays fresh also depends on how it’s stored and whether it’s kept as whole beans or ground. For the best experience, store coffee in an airtight container and grind just before brewing.
Fresh coffee simply tastes better — and once you’ve had it, it’s hard to go back.
